The masu has been part of everyday life for Japanese people for 1,300 years. The wooden masu is a traditional industry representing Ogaki City in Gifu Prefecture.

All of our masu are made from Japanese hinoki cypress.
The wood comes mainly from the Tokai region, including Gifu Prefecture, famous for Tono hinoki, and Nagano Prefecture, home of Kiso hinoki. Its light, pale orange tone gives a calm, clean impression. The color and grain differ from piece to piece, which is part of the individual character of a natural material.

You can place a glass inside and let it overflow in the “mokkiri” style, or simply pour your drink straight into the masu. Use it however suits your mood. Since it holds one go, you can also use it to measure rice.
Please also enjoy the distinct character of each piece of hinoki.
