Frozen rice turns sticky and loses its flavor? The "Masu Ohitsu" overturns that common belief

What Is COBITSU?

COBITSU is a masu-style ohitsu (wooden rice container) that lets you enjoy frozen rice as if it were freshly cooked.

Work, housework, childcare, studying. You work hard every day, so you may often be too busy to cook rice.

For those times, just heat COBITSU in the microwave and bring it straight to the table.
A faint hinoki (Japanese cypress) fragrance that gently calms the mind.
The warmth of wood and the pleasant feel of it in your hands.

COBITSU softly soothes a tired heart and brings a luxurious moment of happiness and joy to your everyday life.

Material: Domestic Japanese hinoki (body, lid, wooden spatula), silicone (band)
Size: 123.4 × 123.4 mm (outer dimensions: top), 77 mm (outer dimensions: bottom), 58 mm (outer dimensions: height)
Capacity: 270 ml
Rice capacity: 180 g (when filled with cooked rice to an amount that does not touch the lid)

COBITSU's Performance, Which Even Rice Experts Found Surprising

2 mechanisms unique to the masu ohitsu that bring once-frozen rice back to life

The "Ohitsu Effect" Keeps Humidity at the Ideal Level

The secret behind why rice in traditional Japanese wooden ohitsu stays delicious even after it cools is the humidity-regulating property of wood. A wooden ohitsu absorbs excess steam from freshly cooked rice and then releases moisture as time passes, so the rice stays neither sticky nor dry, keeping just the right texture and flavor.
COBITSU uses high-quality domestic hinoki to achieve humidity regulation like that of an excellent ohitsu.

The "Steamer Effect" Heats Evenly and Keeps Rice Moist

When cold rice is reheated in a steamer, the moisture that had escaped is returned by the steam in just the right amount, leaving the rice plump, glossy, and like freshly cooked. When you heat COBITSU in the microwave, the moisture it has absorbed is released as steam and fills the container, warming the rice inside evenly. At the same time, excess heat and steam escape moderately through the gap between the body and the lid, allowing the rice to be heated much like in a steamer.

Basic Usage – Storage

Step one,

Just before adding the rice, lightly moisten the inside of the COBITSU body and the inside of the lid, shake off the water, and quickly wipe off the moisture with a paper towel or dishcloth.

Step two,

Lightly spoon in freshly cooked, hot rice, filling it to about 80% full.
* If time passes after the rice is cooked, it will no longer keep its original flavor.

Step three,

Put on the lid and fasten the silicone band.

Step four,

Place it in the freezer right away.
* The lid may warp upward slightly as it absorbs moisture from the rice, but this does not affect use.

How to Enjoy

Step one,

Remove the silicone band and, with the lid on, microwave at 500 W for 3 to 3 and a half minutes.
* Heating results vary depending on the amount of rice and the performance of your microwave. Please adjust the time to suit your microwave at home.
* The silicone band is not heat-resistant, so be sure to remove it.

Step two,

Take it out of the microwave, remove the lid, and lightly loosen the whole portion of rice by cutting through it with chopsticks before eating.
* It will be hot, so please be careful not to burn yourself when taking it out.

Step three,

After use, wash with water or a neutral dish detergent to remove dirt. COBITSU has a coating that helps keep rice from sticking, but if grains of rice are stuck in the corners and are hard to remove, please use the included wooden spatula.
After washing, dry COBITSU by placing both the body and the lid upside down on a dishcloth or similar, with the bottom panels facing up. * Never soak it or wash it in a dishwasher, as this may cause damage.
