Urushi Raden WAKASA Hexagonal 23cm Dishwasher-Safe

Urushi Raden WAKASA began with the voices of customers who visited our physical store.

“I would like Wakasa lacquerware chopsticks with raden inlay, but they are all old-fashioned designs... Most are too flashy to use at everyday meals. I would be happy to find ones with more refined raden accents that I can use without fuss.”

Learning that many people felt this way, we set out to make new chopsticks that faithfully carry on the “urushi” and “raden” design of Wakasa lacquerware while also suiting the modern dining table. The result is Urushi Raden WAKASA.

For the design of the grip, we used raden to depict the beautiful scene of Wakasa Bay, its whole surface glittering in the setting sun.

The central painted section is decorated with gold to match the tone of the whole piece.

Generous raden is scattered across the surface and layers of urushi are applied. The depth and the clear lines this creates express the beautiful Wakasa dusk, dyed orange and shimmering.

Urushi Raden WAKASA excels not only in appearance but also in function. Although they are urushi chopsticks, they are happily dishwasher-safe.

The urushi used in this product is MR urushi, which is refined at the processing stage into finer molecules than conventional urushi. It has excellent gloss and transparency, and its surface is very hard and durable, so these are very practical chopsticks that you can put in the dishwasher every day.

The shape is hexagonal so that it fits comfortably in the hand. It also does not roll easily when set down on a table.

*Dry lacquer: the textured chopstick tips are made by sprinkling dried urushi powder and layering urushi over it.

The chopstick tips touch dishes and food and wear easily, so we finished them with dry lacquer to prevent the urushi from peeling off. The dry lacquer sections, colored with black and vermilion accents by size, also help prevent slipping.
